Looks like someone at Intel messed up and accidentally revealed that the chip giant will use Coffee Lake-S parts for its 9th Gen Core series. A microcode update guidance reveals Intel is working on quad-core and six-core parts that will use the Core i3 and Core i5 9000 naming scheme. The document doesn't refer to Core i7 parts, presumably those will have eight cores.
The 9th Gen Core series are now confirmed to be utilizing Coffee Lake architecture, as revealed by microcode update guidance file. The Coffee Lake S series featuring 6+2 and 4+2 configurations are now listed with Core i5-9600(K), Core i5-9500(T), Core i5-8400, Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 SKUs.
