Toshiba Folio 100 tablet features Android 2.2 and Tegra 2

Toshiba showcases the Folio 100 at the IFA show in Berlin, this is an upcoming 10.1" tablet with NVIDIA's Tegra 2 SoC and the Android 2.2 operating system. The device has a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution and features 16GB internal storage capacity, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Mobile Broadband (available Q1 2011), DLNA compatibility, Flash Player 10.1, 1.3MP webcam, SD/MMC card reader, an accelerometer, one USB 2.0 port, and one mini HDMI port. The Folio 100 measures 281mm x 181mm x 14mm and weighs 760g. Toshiba claims it can achieve a battery life of up to 7 hours with 65% web browsing, 10% video playback and 25% standby time.

A WiFi-only version is expected in November for 429EUR while a 3G edition is expected to follow in Q1 2011 for 529EUR.

A Mobile Broadband model with 3G support will also be launched later in the year, providing on-demand access to the web, regardless of location.

The 25.7cm (10.1”) capacitive touchscreen makes navigation quick and easy, offering multi- touch control that enables users to zoom, pinch and swipe their way through menus, documents and applications. The device also offers full compatibility with Adobe Flash Player 10.1, providing a rich and unhindered experience when browsing Flash-based websites and during playback of Flash-encoded multimedia content.

Premium design, extensive connectivity
Only 14mm thick and weighing just 760g, the Toshiba FOLIO 100 features a powerful NVIDIA® Tegra 2 processor, providing a perfect balance between high performance and efficient battery consumption. Up to seven hours of battery life enables users to enjoy a full day’s use on a single charge, and instant-on functionality ensures the device is operational within less than 30 seconds of being switched on. Each model offers 16GB of on-board storage for music, videos, and photos, with storage easily expandable thanks to support for SDHC memory cards up to 32GB.

The Toshiba FOLIO 100’s easy-to-navigate interface makes it simple for users to enjoy content, access social networks or play back multimedia, with the minimum of fuss. The popular Android platform offers a swift, easy-to-use operating system familiar to many, with Toshiba’s elegant software taking advantage of Android’s simplicity to allow effortless operation. HD video support with optional docking Designed to offer a rich and versatile experience, the Toshiba FOLIO 100 provides vivid on- screen video, as well as additional support for the external playback of high definition (HD) video on HD ready TV screens. The integrated card reader offers great versatility to load content without occupying internal memory, and the integrated mini HDMI port enables users to view their HD movie content on their TV sets. DLNA support allows users to stream music, video and images between devices around the home, and an optional HDMI-dock also comes complete with a remote control, allowing the Toshiba FOLIO 100 to be used at the centre of the living room as a fully functional home entertainment device.

Pre-installed apps
The Toshiba FOLIO 100 ships with pre-installed applications, allowing users to work, shop, network and browse the web with complete simplicity. An Opera Mobile web browser, FBReader e-book reader, Document To Go® office suite and Evernote® are all included as standard. Video calls are supported also by Fring® - an application that uses the embedded 1.3MP front-facing webcam to allow users to communicate with friends and family.
