DailyTech writes Google is working on several new features for Android Wear to make smartwatches more self-sufficient. First and foremost is the company's upcoming toolkit that will allow third-party developers to make custom watch faces for smartwatches, allowing a much greater level of customization. These smartwatch faces would be downloadable from their own section within the Google Play Store. Next Google will also add Bluetooth support as well as support for integrated GPS functionality.
“For example, if you're taking a hike, maybe it's interesting to out the specific distance you've traveled right there on the watch face,” Director of Engineering for Android Wear David Singleton in an interview with CNET. “If you're someone who cares about a specific stock or specific score of a sports team, maybe you can have a sports team watch face and put their latest score right there on the watch face.”
