NVIDIA relased its first Shield handheld console about three years ago, the Shield Tablet launched in 2014 and received the Tablet K1 refresh in November 2015. There were some rumors about a next-gen tablet device with the Tegra X1 SoC but things have been awfully quiet about this product in recent months.

Earlier this month, NVIDIA broke the silence via a dismissal request letter submitted to the FCC:
In the letter, NVIDIA’s Compliance Engineering Manager claims that the reason for the dismissal request and cancellation of the product is “business reasons.” Perhaps NVIDIA has noted the declining tablet sales across the market, and has decided instead to focus their efforts elsewhere.
Android Police writes this may not be the end of the road for the Shield family, there's still reason to believe NVIDIA is working on a successor to the original Shield Portable.
