Earlier this year SK Hynix announced the development of world's first 72-layer 3D NAND flash memory chip with a capacity of 256Gb (32GB). Now word is hitting the Internet that SK Hynix has improved yields significantly over the past couple of months and that it's now mass producing the 72-layer NAND.

Asian tech media writes yields of the 256Gb 72-layer NAND chips from SK Hynix are on-par with Samsung's yields, which is an amazing feat.

TechPowerUp reports SK Hynix is currently mass producing a solid state disk that will feature not only the 72-layer NAND flash memory but also the company's first in-house SSD controller. Furthermore, they're also working on eMMCs for mobile devices.
