Samsung exits regular LCD panel production by late 2020

South Korean tech giant Samsung announced it's winding down production of LCD panels. By the end of this year, Samsung will shut down all of its LCD production capacity in South Korea and China.

Instead, the firm will focus on more advanced “quantum dot” screens. Samsung currently has two LCD production lines at South Korean factories as well as two LCD-only factories in China. One of the South Korean LCD production lines will be converted to make quantum dot screen:
The investment for the next five years will be focused on converting one of its South Korean LCD lines into a facility to mass produce more advanced “quantum dot” screens.
Earlier this year, rival LG already decided to halt domestic production of LCD TV panels by the end of this year.
