    Some NV40 Rumours

Posted on Tuesday, July 22 2003 @ 10:39:24 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

There is not much information about nVidia's future 3D card with codename NV40. Although here are a few speculations from The Inquirer :

  • Architecture : 0.13µ (micron) marchitecture with the help of IBM. According to the Inq this leads to a maximum of 200 millions transistors.
  • Pipelines : Possibly 12
  • The NV40 will be a native PCI Express chip with some kind of bridge to make it work in current AGP boards that will co-exist for quite some time .
  • Performance : No doubts that it will be faster than the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, possibly by 30% like with most nVidia new generation video chipsets in the past.
  • Memory : No 256 bit interface because it is still too expensive. Probally the NV40 will use DDR II
  • Name : Almost 100% sure that it will be GeForce. nVidia has made a lot of fame with the GeForce series so it is very doubtful that they will change the name. I personally wonder will they ever do?
