Reports have suggested Intel will cut prices across its Core 2 lineup in April, but according to The Inquirer, AMD isn't going to wait until then to retaliate.
In fact, the site has received word that AMD will apply a round of fairly substantial price cuts to its Athlon 64 X2 line as early as February 12. The site says the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ will drop from $138 to $113, the Athlon 64 X2 4600+ will sink from $215 to $195, and the Athlon 64 X2 5200+ will tumble from $295 to just $222.
Of course, The Inq suggests that those cuts won't be so much a pre-emptive strike against Intel as AMD simply setting the stage for the official launch of its Athlon 64 X2 6000+. The X2 6000+ has actually been up for sale at some online retailers for a while now, but AMD reportedly won't introduce it officially until February 19.
More AMD processor price cuts coming soon?
