NVIDIA G80 Ultra faster than Radeon HD 2900 XTX

Posted on Thursday, April 26 2007 @ 00:06:21 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Industry sources leaked results that indicate that NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce 8800 Ultra will beat the Radeon HD 2900 XTX graphics card in the 3DMark06 benchmark.

These tests were all performed on a quad-core QX6800 based test system. The Radeon HD 2900 was clocked at 800MHz with 2200MHz GGDR4 memory and the GeForce 8800 Ultra had a clock speed of 650MHz with 2160MHz memory. The Radeon used Catalyst 8.36 drivers and the GeForce card used the ForceWare 158.19 drivers.
  • Radeon HD 2900: ~13 500 marks
  • GeForce 8800 Ultra: ~ 14 000 marks
  • Looks like in this test the GeForce 8800 Ultra is about 3.7% faster.
The ATI's final driver the one that fixes the Audio bit should make Radeon HD 2900 XTX to perform at the same level as G80 Ultra. Not all hopes are lost. Our reader reminded us that we claimed before that Radeon HD 2900 XTX performs slower than the XT card and we have to say that these tests where done with the latest revision of the 1 GB card and therefore the scores are now much better.
