Often associated with violent gameplay and cutting-edge graphics, the first person shooter is the stalwart of PC games and almost single handedly turned the common desktop into a commercially successful entertainment machine. Today's FPS titles push the boundaries between video games and live action movies ever closer, both in terms of development cost and sheer realism. But where did it all start?
