Intel to launch 3.2GHz 1M next week on Monday

Posted on Tuesday, September 30 2003 @ 11:11:18 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Next monday Intel is expected to launch new Xeon CPUs! The new Xeon DP processor has a 533MHz FSB and will have 1MB of L3 cache. It will be clocked at 3.20GHz, just like the Intel 3.2GHz Pentium 4 EE. Price of the new Xeon will be $851. Price reductions won't follow, because Intel has no Xeon DP price reductions planned trough Q1 2004.

Debuting on the 6th of October, the Xeon 3.20GHz processor with 512KB of L2 and 1MB of L3 cache will be the most powerful Intel Xeon DP CPU based on the current design formerly known under “Prestonia” code-name. In the second quarter of 2004 Intel plans to launch its new Nocona processor featuring Prescott-like core, faster 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus and 1MB of L2 cache. The chips are expected to clock at 3.60GHz, even though current power consumption of the 90nm chips may lead Intel to lower the initial frequencies of its next-generation server chips.
