Few people are already using Windows Vista but the operating system is on its way to become the most used operating system. A new report from research firm Net Applications indicates the total share of Windows Vista in September was 7.38%, a percent more than the month before.

Windows XP is still the most used operating system with a share of 79.32%. The third most popular operating system is Mac OS with a share of 6.61%. Windows 2000 is used by 3.32% and other operating systems such as Linux distributions and older Windows versions are used by 3.39%.

The marketshare from Mac OS jumped quite a bit, from 6.15% in August to 6.61% in September. The report also predicts that Windows Vista will likely reach a marketshare of over 10% in December.
