"Intel to launch LGA775 Prescott with 1066MHz FSB in Q4 2004"

Posted on Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 17:23:03 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

In the fourth quarter of this year Intel is planning to launch a Pentium 4 chip running at a clockspeed of 1066MHz. This new CPU is an upgraded LGA775 Prescott, which will be launched on June 21. The first LGA775 processors run at 800MHz FSB. On June 21 Intel will also launch the 915 chipset.
The 1066MHz FSB chip, which will be numbered 720, is expected to have performance equal to Intel’s P4 Extreme Edition processor, according to the sources.

With the 800MHz FSB Prescott consuming over 100 watts of power, local motherboard makers are concerned that the power consumption could be a critical issue for the 720.
