Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux Gets Global File System (GFS) Support

Posted on Sunday, June 27 2004 @ 17:39:11 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Lineox released today Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux version 3.023, the 23th version of Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux since 23. Feb. 2004. A new version of Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux is always released when Red Hat releases bug or security fix packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0, but occasionally also when new features are added to Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux.

This latest release of Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux is a feature enhancement release, which adds the packages built from Red Hat Global File System (2200 USD) sources. Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux has always had packages built from Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3.0 (1499 USD), Red Hat Cluster Suite (499 USD), and Red Hat Developer Suite (free as an introductory offer) sources, so the total cost of comparable software is now up to 4198 USD. Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux is however available for download for only 10 Euros for one type of disk image(s) or 15 Euros for both CD and DVD images.

Global File System (GFS) is an open source, POSIX-compliant cluster file system and volume manager that that can be used on Lineox Enterprise Linux servers attached to a storage area network (SAN). It works on all major server and storage platforms. The leading (and first) cluster file system for Linux, GFS has the most complete feature set, widest industry adoption, broadest application support, and best price/performance of any Linux cluster file system today. GFS allows Lineox Enterprise Linux servers to simultaneously read and write to a single shared file system on the SAN, achieving high performance and reducing the complexity and overhead of managing redundant data copies. GFS has no single point of failure, is incrementally scalable from one to hundreds of Lineox Enterprise Linux servers, and works with all standard Linux applications.

GFS will be supported like the Cluster and the Developer Suite with updates, which are all included in the update support service for Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 starting at 15 Euros per year for single systems.

Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.023 needs 4 CD images, it started as 3 disk set, the DVD image size is now 2.161 GB and it started as 1,729 GB. It contains now 376 updated or new packages totaling 1,150 GB, so approximately half of the contents is already changed from the original release of Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 in just 5 months.
