Lite-On to begin mass production of 16x DVD Dual burners

Posted on Friday, July 09 2004 @ 16:32:17 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

By the end of this month Lite-On will start mass production of 16x DVD Dual (+RW & -RW) burners for ODM/OEM clients. These 16x DVD Dual burners will be available for a retail price of about US$179.

Currently Lite-On ships about 600,000 12x and 8x DVD burners a month. They expect that 16x models will become mainstream with monthly shipments exceeding one million units in the fourth quarter of this year.

In the first half of 2004 Lite-On sold a total of 2.74 million DVD burners (including DVD recorders), the world's fourth most after Hitach-LG Data Storage, NEC and Pioneer. Lite-On's target for this year is eight million DVD burners, including one million DVD recorders.
