Nikon rolled out its Coolpix S60 - this is a new compact 10 megapixel digical camera with a 3.5" LCD display. The Coolpix S60 is just 22mm thick and features 5x optical zoom with image stabilization.
The COOLPIX S60 offers intuitive fingertip shooting control and a variety of exciting playback options, all seamlessly integrated into an innovative touch screen interface. With a newly developed 3.5-inch LCD monitor featuring a 16:9 widescreen display, the only physical button to press is the shutter – and even that isn’t needed when using handy features such as the self-timer or the new Smile Timer. The optimized interface offers a choice of three different HOME screens with large icons that make fingertip selection of operating modes and controls easy and accurate. Even the 5x zoom can be controlled via icons on the touch screen. Advanced features include the ability to lock autofocus and exposure on a subject by simply touching the corresponding location on the screen. The camera then follows the subject’s movement to ensure sharp focus when the shutter is pressed. And, when used in conjunction with the new Portrait One-touch Zoom function available in Portrait or Night Portrait scene modes, one more touch of the screen commands the camera to automatically zoom in and capture the subject with just the right amount of framing.

Touch controls also bring a new dimension of fun to viewing images, from fingertip scrolling through images, quick switching between various thumbnail views, instant image selection, and playback zoom. Auto image rotation ensures optimal display regardless of the picture’s orientation. The supplied stylus can be used for a variety of functions including: The Draw Function, which allows handwritten memos on the touch screen to be stored as JPEG files, and the Paint Function, which enables memos and frames to be added to images. And the new HD Pictmotion function combines with HDMI connectivity to allow high-quality playback and slide shows on an HDTV.

Imaging power begins with 10.0 effective megapixels of sharp resolution. This is matched to the enhanced compositional freedom of a 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens that ably covers focal lengths from 33-165mm, a range broad enough for shooting everything from buildings or group pictures to close-up portraits. And an optimized processing system based on Nikon’s original EXPEED digital image-processing concept quickly delivers quality results with faithful color reproduction and subtle tones, even when taking advantage of sensitivity settings as high as ISO 3200 in low lighting conditions or when shooting fast-moving subjects.

The Nikon Coolpix S60 will be available next month for $350.
