NVIDIA and Boxx Technologies announce render server

Posted on Tuesday, August 10 2004 @ 19:19:50 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

NVIDIA and Boxx Technologies have announced what they claim is the first server-based system for GPU-accelerated final-frame rendering, using Gelato graphics rendering software.
Apparently, it's the first ever server system to run Gelato graphics software in a renderfarm, which should make the most of the software renderer's capabilities. As you may or may not be aware, Nvidia is claiming the Gelato graphics rendering software to be the fastest final-frame film renderer in the galaxy. The speed is supposedly increased further by a renderfarm of networked BOXX server systems, compatible with Gelato.

The servers also feature NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics boards and dual Intel Xeon processors, making them fast little blighters.

On the BOXX server system, Beth Loughney of NVIDIA said: "The server system will help reduce render times by offloading the rendering process from the workstation to the render farm, thus allowing the artist to be more effective and more creative." Thanks, Beth.
These systems are available in AGP and PCI Express configurations. The PCI Express config costs around $3,000.
