HTC aims to become top 3 handset maker

A Chinese newspaper heard from HTC's CEO Peter Chou that HTC is aiming to become one of the top 3 or 5 handset vendors in the global market.
While Chou did not provide a timetable as to when HTC is expected to reach its goal, HTC still has a long way to go before reaching its target, given that HTC is expected to ship only 15 million handsets in 2008 compared to shipments of 100 million units projected for the current third ranked vendor Motorola and 90-100 million units for the fifth ranked vendor Sony Ericsson, the paper said.
