MSI Wind Drive DVD burner on its way

Posted on Friday, August 29 2008 @ 08:46:57 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

MSI is working on an external optical drive for the MSI Wind notebook. FUD Zilla says the drive will be called MSI Wind Drive, it will be available by mid to late September for around 45EUR.
The new external optical drive comes in a compact and light aluminum chassis which should look good when placed next to the MSI Wind netbook. The drive has dimensions of 149,5x136x18 mm and uses anodized brushed aluminum so no nasty fingerprints and smudges will be visible on the case. The best thing is that it doesn't need external power as it works flawlessly over the USB 2.0 connection.

As for the technical details, the Wind Drive can burn DVD-ROM and DVD-ROM DL at 8x while CD-ROMs burn speed goes up to 24x speed. It reads DVD±R DL: 6X, DVD±R: 8X, DVD+RW: 8X, DVD-RW: 6X, DVD-RAM: 5X, CD-R and CD-RW at 24X. It has data buffer with 2MB and uses Sunplus chipset with PLDS DS-8A2S optical disc drive.
