ASUS and HTC to debut 5MP touchscreen phones in Q4 2008

Posted on Friday, September 19 2008 @ 04:15:54 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Market sources report ASUS and HTC will both release their first smartphones with a touch screen and 5 megapixel digital camera in the fourth quarter of this year:
HTC plans to launch the HTC Touch HD firstly in Europe, with a 3.8-inch widescreen WVGA display, standard 3.5mm headphone jack, TouchFLO 3D interface and multimedia functions. It will support 3.5G, Wi-Fi and GPS/AGPS functions and be powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201a 528MHz processor, the sources noted.

Peter Chou, president and CEO of HTC, pointed out that the Touch HD will offer consumers high-quality mobile multimedia and internet experiences.

Asustek's Glaxy7 will feature the company's recently debuted Glide UI and a 3.5-inch screen. The handset will also support 3.5G, Wi-Fi and AGPS functions. Since the Glaxy 7 is similar to Samsung Electronics' Omnia handsets in design, some market watchers are even calling the Glaxy 7 the "Omnia killer."
