Google runs 10 percent of active websites

Posted on Friday, October 31 2008 @ 15:39:14 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

The latest Netcraft statistics reveal Google now hosts about 10.5 million websites, a 411,000 increase from September. Netcraft says there are a total of 182 million websites, of which 91.5 million run Apache and 62.8 million Microsoft's IIS.

Google's marketshare in the web server software market is now 5.7 percent, but if you only count the "active" websites, Google's share soars to 10.6 percent.

This may sound like a lot but you have to take in mind Google owns lots of websites, and services like Blogger probably account for a large chunk of these 10.5 million websites.
