Mitsubishi to stop producing big LCD panels

Posted on Tuesday, September 21 2004 @ 16:53:34 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Mitsubishi has decided to stop production of LCD panels for televisions and computers. Instead the company will focus on the production of smaller LCD panels.
In a statement, the company said that it had already reduced the production ratio of large panels to 20 per cent this year and the production of larger panels will be history by next year.It will, however, be continuing to build smaller panels that are integrated into industrial gear.

The main reason for the change is cut-throat competition, with many firms spending oddles of cash to produce LCD panels for flat-panel televisions.
