Rumor: NVIDIA planning 40nm mainstream GT216
| |
Posted on Friday, January 30 2009 @ 21:20:43 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck |
FUD Zilla claims NVIDIA is working on a mainstream GT216 GPU, this 40nm chip reportedly has a TDP of less than 45W. It's expected to be a rival to ATI's 40nm RV740 with a price tag of less than $100.This looks like Nvidia’s mainstream card and there is a big chance that this card might be selling for under $100. The chip itself is using 29mm packaging and naturally OEMs will be the first customers, but at the same time this might be a new GT branded mainstream that could replace the 9600 generation.
We believe that this chip is meant to fight ATi’s 40nm RV740 chip, and we expect both of them some time in April.
