Dell being close to adopting AMD CPUs

Posted on Thursday, November 11 2004 @ 21:41:56 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

Infoworld has an article on Dell being close to adopting AMD CPUs. Of course when I worked at Dell internal testing back in 99 talked of the Athlon being faster than the PIII, but stability of the platform was not there yet.

"My guess is we're going to want to add that [AMD] product line in the future," Rollins said in an interview on Wednesday with InfoWorld editors.

Rollins pointed to AMD's technology lead on Intel (Profile, Products, Articles) in the 64-bit category as the primary reason for the shift in Dell's Intel-only strategy.
