Notebook expected to drop until Windows 7 and Calpella arrive

Posted on Thursday, July 02 2009 @ 13:44:16 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Industry sources told DigiTimes that notebook demand is expected to drop sharply this quarter as consumers are waiting for Intel's new "Calpella" platform in September, and Windows 7 in October. The sources expect notebook demand will take off again in November.
In addition to traditional notebooks, the launch of Intel's next-generation Atom N450 platform for netbooks in the fourth quarter will also contribute to a drop in demand in the third quarter.

The sources expect demand for notebooks to take off after November, and expect to see fierce price competition in the notebook market during the third quarter.
