ASUS and MSI to enter eBook reader market?

Posted on Thursday, August 27 2009 @ 15:46:43 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Asustek president Jerry Shen unveiled his company may release an eBook reader under its Eee brand by the end of the year at the earliest. Another player considering to enter this market is MSI, market sources claim the requirements to enter this market are even lower than for netbooks, but that the content delivery platform is the biggest problem.
The sources pointed out that the requirements for entering the e-book reader market are even lower than for netbooks, but the key to success lies in establishing a content delivery platform. Currently, demand for e-book readers is mainly concentrated in North America and Europe, with penetration in Asia markets low due to differences in reading habits, the sources noted.
