Steve Ballmer: Natural user interface is future of PC industry

Posted on Saturday, November 07 2009 @ 08:01:14 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the focus of development over the next 20 years for the PC industry will focus on delivering a more natural user interface for users:
Devices equipped with a natural user interface would serve as your personal secretary in the future, Ballmer indicated. Ballmer gave an example of his own experience to highlight how far the industry needs to progress in terms of a natural user interface. Before coming to Taiwan he could tell his staff to "prepare for a trip to Taipei" and they would know exactly what to do, while the best a computing device could do would be to deliver search engine results for Taiwan.

However, Ballmer is confident that in the future devices will be able to understand what a user means when a command is given, and cloud computing is one of the keys for delivering such a future.
