Linux is becoming more and more popular for cell phones as Samsung said today that it and several others manufacturers have created the first Linux-based smartphones that run over the UMTS and EDGE next-gen networks.

The reference design of the Linux-based smartphone supports advanced 3G services such as video calling, video streaming and java support.

The phone will be presented next week at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.
