Queen awards Bill Gates with KBE title

Posted on Wednesday, March 02 2005 @ 17:11:24 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

The British Queen Elizabeth has awarded Bill Gates with the title KBE (Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) - but she also confessed to him that she isn't really a computer enthusiast.

Gates and his wife said that they were honored by the award which, following advice from Britain's Foreign & Commonwealth Office, is given for contributions to British interests.

But like other U.S. recipients such as late President Ronald Reagan, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and General Norman Schwarzkopf, Gates will not be called "Sir" Bill because he is neither a British nor Commonwealth citizen.
