Posted on Thursday, March 24 2005 @ 17:05:06 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

Sony today launched the long-anticipated PlayStation Portable in North America for $250. The company shipped one million units to the US and expects they will be sold-out very soon.

In New York a huge line of gaming enthusiasts were waiting in front of the Sony Style store for its debut. And a Best Buy spokesman told the press that the company expects to sell out all their PSPs the first day.

The PSP package includes the console, an UMD version of the Spider-Man 2 movie and some other accessories. Besides games the device is also suited to play music, video and can make a wireless connection with other PSPs.

Together with the the PlayStation Portable a total amount of 24 games were launched - more will come later.

The European launch date for the PlayStation Portable is still unknown - Sony postponed the European launch to be able to deliver enough units to North America.

You can buy the PlayStation Portable online at Amazon.
