Hitachi and Pioneer have cut their plasma display panel TV prices with 35 to 40% in order to compete better with Taiwanese brands.
The average price for 42-inch PDP TVs from Japan brands has now fallen to about 15,900 yuan, down from 25,000-yuan. The price drop has narrowed the price gap between the Japan firms and their local competitors, such as Konka, TCL, and Haier, all of which lowered the prices of their 42-inch PDP TVs to 14,000-15,000 yuan at the beginning of this year.
