    AMD might launch quad-core processors by 2007

    Hector Ruiz from AMD said that his company is currently investigating whether it is worth to develop four-core processors. He said that AMD and also its competitors are capable to produce quad-core processors in a couple of years. But the question will be whether we actually do it or not, he said.

    Ruiz also noted that AMD might start manufacturing chipsets for partners when its production expansion at the Dresden fab is completed.
    AMD has always said it is committed to using its partners and it appears that it doesn't have plans to mass produce its own chipsets to compete with those firms, although we're attempting to get clarification on this.
