Acer has demanded its panel suppliers offer notebook display solutions with embedded DisplayPort (eDP) interfaces instead of the current LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) mainstream interface standard, according to sources at panel makers.
A number of new notebook models rolled out by Acer in 2012 will come with eDP displays, the sources added.
With the exception of Apple's MacBook series, only a few notebook models from other vendors have employed eDP displays due to price differences between eDP and LVDS models, the sources noted.
