EE Times came across a rumor that Samsung is in negotiations with Novaled AG to buy the German OLED pioneer for around $200 million.
Novaled AG has cooperated with Samsung in OLED materials and products since 2005 and provided proprietary OLED technology to Samsung Mobile Display for use in the production in AMOLED display modules. In 2011 Samsung invested an undisclosed sum of money in Novaled. (See Samsung invests in OLED pioneer Novaled.)

Novaled, which was founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Dresden and the local Fraunhofer Institute, has an extensive patent portfolio. The company is likely to be acquired by Chiel Industries, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, according to Korea's ETnews.com.
