DigiTimes writes ASUS and MSI enjoyed success in the gaming laptop market, together accounting for over 50 percent of global sales in 2015. An estimated 3.8 million to 4 million gaming laptops will ship this year, with ASUS accounting for 1.1 million units and MSI for 0.9 million units.

Global sales of gaming laptops are expected to hit 4.5 million to 5 million units in 2016, but the market is seeing increased competition as vendors flock to this small part of the laptop market that's seeing not only growth but also healthy margins.
Dell has been targeting the high-end segment with its shipments expected to reach over 100,000 units in 2015, while other vendors including Acer, Lenovo, HP, Razer, Gigabyte Technology and Haier share the remaining shipments, said the sources.

However, competition in the gaming notebook sector is expected to further heat up in 2016 as Lenovo, Haier, Dell and Acer have stepped up efforts to ramp sales.
