AMD to make fewer than 5,000 Radeon VII cards?

If a new rumor from TweakTown is to be believed, AMD's Radeon VII will be far from a return to the high-end video card market. Industry contacts told the site that the Radeon VII will be a very limited run because it's basically a marketing stunt. Word on the street is that AMD is losing money on this $699 video card and that there will be less than 5,000 units made:
The improved cooler will keep it cooler than the Radeon Instinct MI50, while the same 300W TDP applies. Even the Radeon Instinct MI50 performance falls between the GeForce RTX 2070 and RTX 2080, while the new Radeon VII has performance that equals and will sometimes (higher resolutions like 4K and beyond) beat the RTX 2080. There will also reportedly be NO custom Radeon VII graphics cards made, but I'm still waiting on confirmation of this from AIB partners. They will have to contend with the limited release cards, and I'm sure AMD won't want to give any of them up if there's indeed less than 5000 to be made.
Guess we'll find out on a couple of weeks. The Radeon VII launches on February 7th.
