ARS Technica writes that after Tuesday's Falcon 9 launch, SpaceX now has enough Starlink satellites in orbit for the upcoming public beta of the firm's low-latency satellite internet. This week's launch added 60 satellites to the Starlink constellation, resulting in a total of 775 satellites. A lot more will be needed to provide global coverage, but the current number should be enough to roll out a "fairly wide" public beta in parts of North America:
After yesterday's launch of 60 Starlink satellites, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that "[o]nce these satellites reach their target position, we will be able to roll out a fairly wide public beta in northern US & hopefully southern Canada. Other countries to follow as soon as we receive regulatory approval."
An exact date is unknown. It could take a couple of months until the satellites reach their target position.
