    NEXT 2008 show coverage

    Page: 3/4

    Lara Croft (Alison Carroll)
One of the main attractions of the show was the new Lara Croft model. She did two shows this weekend and handed out signatures to fans. Lara Croft's acte de présence was brief but good, she looked confident and very hot. Some more photos of her act and info about Tomb Raider: Underworld can be found over here.

    Computers and consumer electronics
The multimedia part of NEXT was smaller than I hoped and many firms were missing. Furthermore, the companies that were present didn't show off any upcoming products and some of the booths were rather small.

Canon, Nikon and Olympus were tightly grouped together - each booth showing off some of their latest dSLR cameras behind glass. GPS makers TomTom, Mio and Garmin had similar booths to promote their latest navigation systems.

Philips and Samsung were showing off their latest TVs.

Samsung tried to impress with the Samsung 2263DX, a 22" LCD display with a 7" tandem display. This isn't exactly new tech though, Samsung already showed it off almost a year ago at CES 2008.

In the center of the first hall, social networking site Netlog had a booth were visitors could write messages on:

Acer had a tiny booth with a couple of Predator gaming systems, these nice-looking and expensive rigs were introduced in May.

HP was at NEXT with their touchscreen-equipped TouchSmart PC, some notebooks, LCD displays and a photo printer.

Media Markt had build a huge store at NEXT and they also had a tiny Apple Shop were visitors could play with Apple computers and notebooks.

Microsoft also had a large booth with dozens of notebooks, netbooks some desktop PCs, Windows Mobile phones and Xbox 360 consoles. Here's the ASUS Eee PC netbook:

And on the other side of the table was the Acer Aspire One netbook. All these systems were well-secured, and that was necessary as lots of stuff gets stolen at trade shows. It's pretty sad but at some of the booths I noticed a couple of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP consoles and game cartridges were missing.

Visitors could play with the systems, check out Windows Vista or play with touchscreen Windows Mobile phones. Also note that lots of "I'm A PC" stickers were laying around at the booth of the Redmond giant.

There were a couple of nice gems but overall the multimedia part of NEXT was disappointing. Head over to the fourth page to learn more about two interesting technologies we spotted at NEXT.
