AMD ONCE AGAIN ups the ante in the high-end desktop CPU area with the release of the Athlon64 FX53. The new flagship processor tops at a high 12 x multiplier for a nominal speed of 2400 MHz, that, combined with the dual-channel memory interface is supposed to bring unprecedented performance to the Socket940 platform and reclaim the eroded victory for the Athlon64 family. Concerns about a ceiling in clock speed have been rumored against the pending release of yet higher speed grades but as long as there is no proof of either scenario, claims are claims and rumors are just what they are, that is, rumors. We took the new processor and overcame some initial setbacks in overclocking and finally got it to fly where no standard Athlon has soared before.
