    Asus CrossHair motherboard Review

Posted on Tuesday, August 15 2006 @ 14:39:46 CEST by LSDsmurf

Moving back to the IO ports we see this is not your typical board. The keyboard and mouse PS2 connectors are there, but beyond that things have changed. To the immediate right is SPDIF audio connectors in the form of coaxial and optical. Then we have the LCD poster which gives you info on the motherboard status. This is certainly the first time we have seen an LCD panel used for this function. Previously we have seen two digit LED readouts. Then we see the little LED button with a lightbulb. This turns the onboard LED lights on which we will see in action later. Before you install or remove a component Asus recommends you push this button to make sure nothing is damaged. Then we have a full size firewire connector and two external SATA connectors connected to the Silicon Image chip. We round things out with the 4 USB connectors topped by the Gigabyte Marvell powered Ethernet ports.
