Hitachi Deskstar 250GB SATA Hard Drive RAID gaming performance analysis Review

Posted on Tuesday, October 05 2004 @ 13:08:10 CEST by LSDsmurf

Now if you are a gamer you have to install the game at some point, and despite the best efforts by Valve with Steam doing it off a CD or DVD is the most common way. We applaud Epic and Atari for releasing Unreal Tournament 2004 with a DVD option. Once uncompressed the game takes up almost 6GB of space, and since it comes on one DVD it makes timing it a breeze. Here we see the Maxtor can just not keep up with a smaller cache. Now the single Deskstar is looking good here as well performing better than the Maxtor by a wide margin, and also being faster than the RAID 1 setup. Now the RAID 0 performance is the best beating the single Deskstar by almost 20 seconds, and beating the RAID 1 setup by a full minute.
