    ASUS EAH4890 TOP/HTDI/1GD5 Review

Posted on Thursday, April 09 2009 @ 17:13:47 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

ATI has done a good job with Radeon HD 4890 and produced a high-end board at a mid-range price. If offers solid performance in contemporary games, outperforms the GeForce GTX 285 in a number of tests, has a wide range of supported FSAA modes, and has the best Custom Filtering Anti-Aliasing (CFAA) in the industry. 1024MB of local video memory always comes in handy for extreme gaming, and DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1 support means you’re fully up to date with gaming APIs. If you already own an HD 4870 or GTX 260, then the small performance difference may come as a slight disappointment. But for others looking to upgrade older boards without breaking the bank on a dual-GPU card, ASUS’s EAH4890 TOP/HTDI/1GD5 is a very good choice. You’ll have to pay in excess of £300 if you want to get something significantly faster.
