Belkin Powerline AV+ Starter Kit Review

Posted on Tuesday, April 14 2009 @ 17:35:26 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

When it comes to the crunch, the Powerline AV+ Starter Kit is a dead simple powerline solution that does exactly what it promises. Sure it is pricey and a touch bulky, and I’d have preferred it in white like my existing Netgear stuff, but no configuration means no nonsense. My Internet connection is a paltry 8Mbps, so I experienced absolutely no problem testing the Powerline AV+’s theoretical cap of 200Mbps - the only time I ever got a sniff of the cap was when I was transferring stuff over a local network. I actually clocked the adapters working at around 165Mbps, which is faster than 802.11g (54Mbps), but a bit slower than 802.11n (around 248Mbps). I didn’t even experience any slowdown or latency compared to connecting straight into my router. Overall, a satisfying networking experience.
