AMD has launched four new 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs that land one year after we first saw Ryzen 7 in March 2017. You can read our review of the flag chip Ryzen 7 1800X HERE. Ryzen 7 was major news as AMD delivered 8 cores and 16 threads to the desktop market that trampled all over Intel Skylake and Kaby Lake in terms of productivity and CPU intensive tasks. Not so much, however, in gaming. The gulf between the AMD and Intel platforms at that time was huge, and that made it relatively easy to decide whether you wanted to go with Team Red or Team Blue. 2nd Gen Ryzen is a completely different matter as it mainly offers refinements of Ryzen based on a die shrink from 14nm LLP to 12nm LP. By contrast Intel still uses 14nm, however 8th Gen Coffee Lake upped the core count from four to six so the divide between AMD and Intel is far narrower now than it was back in 2017.
