Microsoft Windows Desktop Search 3.01

Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 3.01 is a minor update to Windows Desktop Search
3.0 that adds: support for indexing UNC files, additional support for enterprise
deployment, and stability improvements. WDS 3.01 installs on Windows XP and
Window Server 2003, but is not needed for Windows Vista since the WDS component
is already included in Vista. Windows Desktop Search 3.01 helps you to find,
preview, and use your documents, e-mail, music, photos, and other items. The
search engine in Windows Desktop Search 3.01 is a Windows service that is also
used by applications such as Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and OneNote 2007 to
index application content and deliver instant results when searching within that
application.
WDS 3.01 includes the following improvements:
- A new default policy setting to index Outlook mail only when Outlook is
running in Cached Exchange Mode.
Note You must configure Group Policy to enable WDS to index Outlook mail
when Outlook is not running in Cached Exchange Mode.
- The Add-in for Files on Microsoft Networks. This add-in lets WDS index
redirected My Documents folders. This add-in also lets WDS index shared
items on remote networks. By default, this add-in is included for supported
32-bit x86-based operating systems.
- Support for the following enterprise Group Policy objects:
- Prevent indexing when running on battery power to conserve energy
- Prevent customizing indexed locations in the Control Panel
- Allow using diacritics
- Prevent displaying advanced indexing options in the Control Panel
- Prevent indexing files in Offline Files cache
- Prevent indexing uncached Exchange Folders
- Prevent indexing Microsoft Office Outlook
- Prevent User Defined Locations
- Prevent indexing e-mail attachments
- Control Rich Previews for Attachments
- Prevent indexing public folders
- Indexer data location
- Add Primary Intranet Search Location
- Add Secondary Intranet Search Locations
- Preview Pane location
- Set Large or Small icon View in Desktop Search Results
- Stop Indexing on Limited Hard Drive Space
- Prevent Unwanted IFilters and Protocol Handlers
- Do not allow Web search
- Prevent Indexing Certain Paths
- Default Indexed Paths
- Default Excluded Paths
- Prevent Indexing of Certain File Types
