The Register Hardware writes Sony will ship its first dual-layer Blu-ray recordable disks in June. However, these disks will be about 140 percent more expensive than their 25GB counterparts which are shipping now.
Sony is now shipping 25GB BD-R and BD-RE media and expects them to cost $20 and $25, respectively. But while the 50GB versions due to ship in June provide double the storage capacity, they're more than twice the price. At $48 and $60, the 50GB BD-R and BD-RE media are 140 per cent more expensive than the lower-capacity discs.
