Samsung started production of 7-inch LCD displays for high-end multimedia products such as portable media players, DVD players and navigation systems.
Yun Jin-hyuk, chief - mobile display business team and executive vice president, Samsung Electronics, said, "This technology breakthrough enables our customers to develop truly differentiated portable electronic devices with higher resolution, wide aspect ratio mobile displays. Using a single-chip packaging solution, we have integrated most of the display electronics on an amorphous silicon LCD."

The current mobile WVGA market revolving around eight and nine-inch models will change, with Samsung claiming that its single-chip solution will replace the four-to-seven driver ICs (integrated circuit) that are commonly used in a seven-inch platform.

Samsung's new mobile display uses advanced integration techniques, and thereby eliminates the need to have a separate printed circuit board containing timing control and power components driving the display.
