AMD officials have said their first quad-core processors based on the K8L architecture will be launched by mid-2007.

According to the Inq we can expect three different K8L processor launches:
  • A launch of the Barcelona core in Q2 2007. This core will support the current HyperTransport 2.0 specification and will work with current motherboards and chipsets.
  • In Q4 2007 we can expect Budapest. This core will feature HyperTransport 3.0 and will be part of the Athlon 64 and one-way Opteron 12xx lineups.
  • The third launch is planned for Q1 2008. The Shangai core will bring HyperTransport 3.0 to the two, four and eight-way Opteron 22xx and 82xx lines.
  • The release dates of Budapest and Shanghai aren't sure yet. It's possible that they will be pushed back because of potential next-generation chipset availability problems.
