Sony Ericsson acquires Symbian's UIQ software

Sony Ericsson will acquire the UIQ software business for smartphones from Symbian.
UIQ Technology makes a version of the Symbian operating system and Sony Ericsson is its most important customer. The software is used in its smartphone P990, the M600 mobile email and messaging phone, and the W950 Walkman music phone.

No financial details were disclosed by the companies in a statement. Sony Ericsson is a 50-50 joint venture between Sony of Japan and Ericsson from Sweden.
