Google owns 49.6% of U.S. search market

Nielsen//NetRatings writes Google is still by far the largest search engine in the United States.

More than 3 billion searches were performed on Google during October 2006, which is more than twice as much than on Yahoo who owns 23.9% of the market and almost six times as much as on MSN/Windows Live Search which is used by 8.8%.

Here's a look at the top 10 search providers with their search volume, year-over-year growth in search volume and share of searches:
  • Google Search: 3,022,326 - 23% - 49.6%
  • Yahoo! Search: 1,456,269 - 30% - 23.9%
  • MSN/Windows Live Search: 538,594 - -8% - 8.8%
  • AOL Search: 375,045 - 1.9% - 6.2%
  • Ask.com Search: 168,076 - 25% - 2.8%
  • My Way Search: 133,211 - 7% - 2.2%
  • EarthLink Search: 34,537 - 10% - 1%
  • Comcast Search: 33,399 - N/A - 1%
  • BellSouth Search: 29,657 - N/A - 0.5%
  • iWon Search: 29,549 - 1% - 0.5%
